Electric under-floor heating is fast becoming a popular form of heating, especially where cold surfaces such as tiles, stone and marble are used. There are cable mats 150w/m2 for internal rooms and 200w/m2 system for conservatories to compensate for higher heat loss, these can be used over a timber base or a concrete base . We also have carbon foil heating for under carpets, suitable wood and laminate flooring. This type of heating system is not new it has been used in Sweden and other Scandinavian countries for many years and is fast becoming a popular way of heat homes in the UK. The ability of the systems to be used as the primary or sole heat source of heating will depend on the available floor area and the amount of heat loss from the room - in 99% of cases when fitted over the majority of the floor area in an internal room it will provide a year round heating system. The exceptions to this is conservatories where a high heat loss can occur. There is a range of thermal insulating backer boards that are fitted under the matting or foil system to ensure that heat loss is kept to a minimum.
